PTA

Why do we have a PTA?

We are fortunate at our school to have a PTA that’s an integral part of the school community. Over the years we have raised thousands of pounds, which has been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children’s educational experience and the school’s facilities.

Our association is about much more than simply fundraising. Friends of Holywell exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal while making memories with the children. It’s fun too - just ask any of the Committee members or volunteers.

All parents and members of the school community are encouraged to get involved, even if they only have a small amount of time available. All families are automatically members of the PTA when their child joins our school and it is up to you how involved you would like to be! You may not be able to help at every event (none of us can!) but offering help or sharing an idea would be greatly appreciated.

Role of the Committee

The Committee meets on a regular basis (usually every 2 months) with smaller working groups meeting as necessary when we are planning larger events.

The Committee also hold open PTA meetings, any member can come along, find out what the association are planning, share ideas and get involved. We will always advertise the date of the next meeting in the PTA section of the School newsletter which goes out every Friday.

The committee of 2024/2025 was as follows…

Head Teacher – Robinne Lowrey

Chair – Lauren Lloyd

Vice Chair – Hayley Dymond

Secretary – Phillipa Carrington-Smith

Treasurer – Aneka Gold

Other Committee members – These are the volunteers /parents/carers of children in the school who regularly help and offer their time.

We welcome any help from parents, teachers and friends, and have a growing list of volunteers who commit some of their time to helping the association. Every little helps, so just one hour of assisting at event or wrapping lucky dip prizes or folding raffle tickets would be invaluable. If you would like to join us please speak to a committee member, come along to our next meeting or email us friendsofholywell@gmail.com

School Council

The School Council plays a very important role, providing a link between individual classes and parents, and the PTA committee. The support from class reps is vital when it comes to organising our main events, and finding out what the children want or need our help with.

Support from Parentkind

Our PTA is a member of Parentkind, which is a national charity and membership organisation providing support and guidance to over 13,500 parent associations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Membership includes comprehensive insurance cover by Zurich Insurance plc for all our association run events and gives access to support and advice on running the association plus fundraising ideas and good practice hints and tips

Parentkind also provide resources for Parents, if you would like to sign up to their Parent e-Bulletin please visit https://www.parentkind.org.uk/Signup

How we raise money

Like most PTAs, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run.  Some of our most popular events include…

            Organised events…

  • After school Cinema nights / School Discos / Ice lolly sales on Fridays during the summer / Seasonal Fairs / Cake/Book/Second hand coat sales (to name just a few!) We will advertise the dates for these events in advance and always looking for extra pairs of hands to help us get prepared and to run these events.
  • Weekly playgroup
We have an amazing group of volunteers who set up a weekly playgroup in the Village Hall, every Wednesday 9-11am during term time. There are themed play stations, music, snacks, and hot drinks for the parents. Adults £1, Children £2. No need to book, everyone welcome.
  • Second hand Uniform Sales
We have a good stock of preloved uniform available and we sell it outside the school gates throughout the year. If you need any uniform please contact Aneka on 07817 573 189
  • School Lottery
We are also members of a national School lottery, which awards weekly prizes of up to £25,000. More commonly we get a winner of around £12 each week 😊 Tickets are £1 per week, please support the lottery if you can, or get grandparents to get a ticket! It is a really great way for us to raise money for the School! To play, visit YOURSCHOOLLOTTERY.CO.UK and select Holywell.

Donation Box

Donations from parents are extremely important.  You can donate time, money, items for sale, raffle prizes and auction lots or offers of services and skills.  You’ll notice the black box outside the school gate – this is the PTA donation point! You can put anything you would like to donate in here, and we will keep it until we need it! We regularly share what we are in need of, in the weekly newsletter but welcome good condition toys, books, clothes and uniform all year round!
